Cree XLamp High-CRI MR16 Reference Design. The goal of this design is to create a LED-based retrofit MR16 lamp that show the performance, especially color rendering, available from the XLamp MK-R LED and match the light output of 35-watt halogen lamp. This demonstration design provided the same or better range of lumen output, beam angles and center beam candle power (CBCP) as traditional halogen lamp while reducing energy consumption by up to 80% and extending the service life of the lamps by a factor of over 20. The weakness in these previous works (relative to halogen technology) was color rendering index (CRI). Previous designs generally had a CRI of around 82, which is generally considered adequate for all but the most demanding artwork, retail and hospitality applications
